My Top 10 Images of 2011

These are in no particular order...

I love this image for a lot of different reasons, I love the flare from the sun, the look on her face, the perspective from the ground. This was also my first time freezing motion without a flash. Everything just came together perfectly.

 The reason this is in the top 10 has a lot to do with this being my very first wedding. It couldn't have turned out better. I remember being so nervous and it helped me realize in the end I was more than ready to take on the task of a couples big day. The confidence boost and the beautiful angles of this image are why it made it into the top 10.

 When I'm allowed to do something really creative and amazing it feeds my soul. It's the reason I got involved with photography in the first place. This will be one of my favorite images/sessions for a very very long time.

 My beautiful Catheryn made this image, she's my rocker girl and and amazing photographer in her own right. This was just from a day of playing around with some lighting and turned into one of my favorite images of all time.

 I think this image pretty much explains itself. How much cooler can you get?! This was from the Manhattan Zombie Walk. I got a ton of "favorites" from that day but this one takes the cake. I especially love that the guy in the bottom right hand corner has a package of ground beef? LOL

 This picture was weeks of planning and hours of prep. From finding the right vintage feeding chair and painting it yellow, to sewing each balloon by hand. It's one of those images that I love because after all the hard work by everyone involved the end result was exactly what we were hoping for.

 Justine Couldn't be more beautiful so that helps with the images of course, but the reason this is one of my favorites is because of the light and angles her body makes. It's just perfect to me.

 This image just couldn't be cuter. The look on her face, the outfit, the backdrop, it just all came together so nicely. This was also one of the first sessions I used something other than pure natural light on and it turned out amazing.

 I'm pretty sure you can guess why this is a favorite? Because it's super RAD? Oh yes! :) It took a good amount of time to get that ring to stay put and when it finally did we were jumping for joy. Plus the shoes for this wedding rocked.

This is one of those fashion type shots I love to get. Even though it was an engagement session the clothes and the location just pulled it all together for one of those whimsical sessions I love so much.

APW get together

You might think that with all of the different photographers in the area that there might be a lot of competition between us. But it's actually the exact opposite. I am so proud to be among all of the great photographers in our area with so many different talents and specialties. Once a month we try to all get together for dinners or shoots and here are a sample of images from the last VERY COLD but very fun get together.

52 Weeks of Awesomeness - Wk 7

This weeks theme was "On The Road". So I chose an image I've been meaning to get to for awhile. I always put personal photos on the back-burner because client sessions come first of course. I'm lucky if I get to my personal images every 6 months or so lol. I just love this image though. The road outside of my moms property in Iowa is gorgeous in the fall and I couldn't have been luckier to grow up there. :)

This weeks challenge was all things sports related. I decided to show off both of my favorite sports. Fishing, and of course FOOTBALL! I am a huge lover of all things fishing and all things New England Patriots. If you like another team, it's okay... that sour feeling you're getting right now is just from remembering the pats beat your team ;) haha

 This weeks theme was "Your Name". I was thinking "how on earth do you photograph your name in a way that tells a story. I decided to forgo my first name (Melisha), as it was chosen pretty much at random when my parents couldn't decide :) But my last name turned out to be pretty easy, I got that one when I was lucky enough to marry my amazing husband. Hope you enjoy the image!

This weeks challenge was "Show us your home" which could be interpreted any way you want. Of course I had to include my little family. My 2 handsome men. I love them so much and home is wherever they are.

52 Weeks of Awesomeness

For the next 52 weeks I will be participating in a large group photography challenge thought up by the genius and so fun Chris from LaBrisa Photography. This week's theme was easy. It's "Free For All" so anything goes. I decided to show a little bit of my other talents, which is crafting crafting crafting. Give me a glue gun and I'm a happy camper. I make my own personal headbands for sessions and I love it! I also love to paint, sculpt, create mixed media jewelry, crochet, and bake sweet treats. I'm a far better baker than a cook anyway :)

The winner of the beautiful 8x10 Lewis Frame is Rita Shaffer! Thank you everyone who participated. I had a blast doing both giveaways last week and I worked hard on both of them. I will try to offer more fun things like this from now on :)

So How did I pick the winner? Well I didn't. To make it as fair as possible, I entered each entry recorded randomly and numbered them. Then I put in the number of entries into random.org's number generator and the box little box picked the winner :)This also helps me from feeling like I bummed everyone who didn't win out, I'm sensitive like that. When I was picking out the styles and colors of my sample frames from The Organic Bloom, I picked my personal favorite style in a neutral color that I knew would look amazing in any room with you guys in mind. When I received my frames, it was a little like Christmas, and this frame ended up being one of my absolute favorites! The white with the brown glaze and darker distressed edges is so opulent and rich looking! It doesn't get much better than that! So I was that much more excited to offer it up in this giveaway.
